Carolyn Wood Carter

Carolyn Wood Carter, 79, of Blackshear, passed away Sunday, November 24, 2024 at UF Health — Shands in Gainesville, FL.

Born in Blackshear June 12, 1945, she lived in Pierce County most of her life. She was a 1963 graduate of Blackshear High School where she was a former cheerleader. She was retired from Georgia Power where she had been a customer service representative but had also been a homemaker. Over the years, she loved to travel, shop, and be with her friends and family. She was a classy and kind southern lady who had a way of making people feel special with her positive outlook on everything. She was a member of Briarwood Baptist Church where she was in the Young at Heart Sunday school class.

She was a daughter of the late James Nelson Jr. and Lucille Carter Wood. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Royce Everett Carter; her sister and brother-in-law, Jane and Murray Comer and her brother, James Nelson “Jimmy” Wood III.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Rhett and Lauren Carter, Blackshear; her sister-inlaw, Fran Wood, Blackshear; her three grandchildren, Ashley Coast Carter, Royce Everett “Trace” Carter III, and Sofie Renae Carter and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 29, from the Pearson-Dial Funeral Home Chapel with

Interment followed in the Blackshear Cemetery.

Members of the Young at Heart Sunday School Class served as honorary pallbearers.
