A Nahunta police officer was involved in a wreck Tuesday afternoon involving two other vehicles while responding to a call.
Officer Larry Champion struck one vehicle and then collided with another November 19 at 3:08 p.m., according to a press release from Police Chief Brad Todd.
Champion was responding to a call to back up another officer in reference to a possible burglary. While en route down Main Street, a vehicle on Brantley Street (side street behind the Brantley County Courthouse) and the NPD unit collided in front of The Brantley Beacon and Satilla Smiles dentist office.
After the impact of the two vehicles, Officer Champion then struck another vehicle.
EMS and other law enforcement personnel responded to the scene. The officer, other drivers and occupants of all three vehicles were checked by EMS personnel.
Officer Champion was transported to Waycross Medical Center by another officer for a medical evaluation and to follow department protocols.
The accident is being investigated by the Georgia State Patrol. Nahunta Police Department is working closely with them to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision.
“Our primary concern is the safety and well-being of everyone involved,” said Todd. “We are committed to full transparency and ensuring a comprehensive investigation is conducted.”
