Lady Herons post double-digit wins over Charlton and Appling

Brantley County’s Lady Herons posted two wins with the second coming in the home opener.

The Lady Herons (3-0) picked up their second road win to start the season turning back the host Indian Maidens Tuesday, November 19, 47-31.

Brantley County held off the challenge of visiting Appling County in winning 5046 Thursday, November 21.

BCHS closed out the season series with Atkinson County with the Lady Rebels visiting Tuesday (November 26). The Lady Herons return to the court Tuesday, December 3 with a date at Appling County to close out the season series. They travel to Class 4A Wayne County Thursday, December 5.

FOLKSTON — Brantley County built a double-digit halftime advantage and was never headed in beating the Lady Indians.

Julie Carter (two steals, rebound, 5-of-6 free throws) led the Lady Herons with 14 points. Abbie Lee (two steals, 4-of-4 free throws) recorded a double-double scoring 11 points and grabbing a teamhigh 11 rebounds.

BCHS claimed a 9-2 lead through the first eight minutes. The Lady Herons used a 13-7 scoring advantage in the second stanza to extend the margin to 22-9 at intermission.

Charlton County sliced two points off the deficit outpointing the visitors 10-8 in the third quarter to get to within 30-19. BCHS closed the game outscoring the Lady Indians 17-12 in the final period.

Riana Dennard (two assists, rebound, steal) was next in the scoring column with seven points. Summer Colley (two rebounds, two steals, assist) and Ella Highsmith (four rebounds, 4-of-4 free throws) bagged six points each.

Kimora Mincey (five rebounds, teamhigh five steals) netted two points. Edie Lowther (two rebounds) canned a free throw. Ayaniah Davenport grabbed eight rebounds and recorded two steals.

CANEY BAY — The Lady Herons broke away from a halftime deadlock and hung on over the final eight minutes to get the win.

Brantley County battled back from a 10-3 first quarter deficit outscoring the Lady Pirates 12-5 in the second period to knot the score at 15-apiece.

The scoring pace quickened over the final 16 minutes. BCHS outpointed the visitors 21-14 in the third stanza to grab a 36-29 lead. The Lady Pirates kept the game close outscoring Brantley County 17-14 in the final eight minutes.

Colley (three rebounds, assist, steal) and Lee (two rebounds) scored 12 points apiece. Carter (four rebounds, two steals, 4-for-4 free throws) scored 11 points giving the Lady Herons a trio of double-figure scorers.

Mincey (team-high tying eight rebounds, three assists) followed with seven points. Dennard (two assists, two steals, rebound) netted four points.

Ayaniah Davenport (team-high tying eight rebounds, two steals, assist) and Kirsten Smith (rebound, assist) netted two points apiece.
