Ware County Attorney Tony Rowell (second right) was the guest speaker at a weekly meeting of the Waycross Exchange Club earlier this month. Rowell used the story of the daring 2011 rescue of Jessica Buchanan and Poal Thisted from Somali guerrillas to make a point. When Thisted was asked what he was most thankful for after the rescue, he replied he was most thankful that he was kidnapped with an American. Rowell used the story as an analogy for the response Americans to the needs of their neighbors after Hurricane Helene. Countless stories from all across the areas struck by the hurricane proved once again that Americans are quick to the rescue of those in need and are willing to sacrifice for the less fortunate. With Rowell are club president David Johnson (left) program chair Danny Bartlett, and club president-elect Kirby McSwain.
