Let’s start with congratulations going out to Mrs. Laycee Carrin and her husband, Logan, on the birth of their daughter, Illa Kate Carrin, who was born on December 15!

Here is a shout out to Mrs. Jennifer Duncan of the PCHS Special Education Department. Over the past several weeks of fall semester, Mrs. Duncan coordinated efforts that saw 19 students receive their driver’s licenses! High School High Tech covered the costs of the program. Mrs. Duncan, meanwhile, assisted students with measures such as going to the courthouse and helping students obtain their birth certificates, when needed. Please give Mrs. Duncan a pat on the back when you see her.

We salute those students who recently completed the end-of-pathway test for Early Childhood Education: Kenzie Meeks, Taylor Sikes, Zymira Vail, Claire Miller, Taylor Owens, Alyssa Heath, Kimya Smith and Jayles Chandel. The teacher is Mrs. Amy Day

Congratulations to Mrs. Elizabeth Slusher from the PCHS math department for being among five teachers in the Pierce County School District to win teacher innovation grants worth $500 each from the Foundation for Excellence in Education.

December 31 is also the deadline to vote for the PCHS Bears football team as the Deer Park Fueled by Nature Class 2A Team of the Year! Vote every day from multiple electronic devices now through December 31 at https://www.dpteamoftheweek.com/ghsa. The winner will be announced in January.

PCHS wrestling returns to the mats Thursday, December 29, competing in the Brantley Bash Tournament. Competition begins at 9 a.m. at Brantley County High School

Bears and Lady Bears basketball is back on the court Friday, December 30 at Lanier County. JV boys tip off at 2 p.m. Varsity girls play at 3:30 with varsity boys at 5 p.m.

The PCHS Swim Bears are idle for the rest of December. They return to competition Wednesday, January 11, 2023. Competition begins at 4 p.m. at the Waycross YMCA. It’s the start of a four-meet homestand to end the regular season.

Coming up Saturday, January 7, 2023, don’t miss Bears Bingo in the PCHS gym, starting at 6 p.m. Admission is $25 and includes 10 bingo cards plus three raffle tickets. There will be concessions, music, door prizes, and raffles.

Girls and boys tennis tryouts will be Monday, January 9 and Tuesday, January 10, 2023 from 3:45-6 p.m. You must have a current physical on file to try out. See Mrs. Lori Marx if you have questions.

The guidance department reminds you that the deadline to register for the February 11, 2023 ACT is January 6, 2023. Register online at www.actstudent.org.

Students who wish to participate in Driver Education need to sign up at the attendance office beginning January 9-January 20, 2023 and pick up an information packet. Classes begin on January 21, 2023. If you want your license at age 16, you must have a driver education course.

All interested students are reminded of the upcoming region Tech Fair competition. In-person competition resumes this year with district competition in January 27, 2023 at South Georgia State College (Waycross Campus) Any PCHS student interested in competing, please contact Mr. DuPont ASAP at [email protected].

Classes will resume at PCHS on Monday, January 9, 2023. Faculty will report for pre-planning on Wednesday, January 4, 2023.
