Pierce Lady Bears drop road games

The road was unkind to Pierce County’s Lady Bears with losses at Bacon County and Charlton County.

PCHS (1-2) fell 57-29 Tuesday, November 19 to the Lady Red Raiders, who were playing their season opener. Pierce County followed with a 62-28 loss Thursday, November 21 to the Indian Maidens (1-1).

The Lady Bears play Tuesday, December 3 at Jeff Davis in the only game of the week following the return from Thanksgiving break.

Bacon County.........57 Lady Bears.............29 

ALMA — Bacon County sophomore Marnay’jah Reynolds single-handidly outscored the Lady Bears with a career-high 38point outburst.

Reynolds, who totaled 39 points in a pair of losses to PCHS last season, scored 16 points in the first half. She hit four of her five threes in the second half en route to scoring 22 points.

She was joined in double figures by Makayla Thomas, who scored 12 of her 14 points over the first two periods.

Reynolds and Thomas combined for all of Bacon County’s 28 first-half points. The Lady Red Raiders led 15-7 after one quarter and 28-14 at intermission.

Bacon County continued to widen its margin during the third period outscoring the Lady Bears 16-10 for a comfortable 44-24 advantage. The Lady Red Raiders outpointed PCHS 13-5 over the final eight minutes.

Charlton County ....62 Lady Bears.............28 

County had four players reach double figures combining for 55 points in beating PCHS.

Rihanna Battle, Chrisiona Farmer (two treys) and Trenity Hamilton (two treys) each scored 14 points for the Indian Maidens. Mahogany Steele finished with 13 points while Ryanna Mitchell (trey) chipped in seven points.

Claire Murray (two threes) led the Lady Bears with a game-high 18 points. Madi McGatha netted five points with Saharah Minott chipping in two points. Caren Drew, Keistin Jones and Ansley Hutchison each hit one free throw.

Charlton County opened up a 24-6 first quarter advantage padding its lead over the next three periods. The Indian Maidens increased the lead by two points in the second period to lead 31-11 at intermission.

A 17-8 scoring advantage in the third extended Charlton County’s lead to 48-19. The Indians Maidens closed out the game outpointing PCHS 14-9.
