PCHS falls at Bacon and Charlton

Pierce County’s Bears are still looking for their first win after losing road tilts at Bacon County and Charlton County.

The Bears (0-3) suffered a 70-51 setback Tuesday, November 19 in Alma to the Red Raiders, who were playing their first game of the season. PCHS dropped a 46-37 decision Thursday, November 21 in Folkston with the Indians (1-2) winning for the first time.

Pierce County is off until Tuesday, December 3 when the Bears travel to Hazlehurst to face Jeff Davis.

Bacon County ........70 Bears .....................51 

ALMA — Bacon County’s Xavier Harris scored a game-high 24 points leading nine players in the scoring column against the Bears.

Harris connected four of the Red Raiders’ nine treys. K.J. Barnes was next with 15 points including three threes.

The two teams combined to commit 42 fouls and shoot 61 free throws (made 30) in the foulmarred game. Bacon County pulled away from a 15-all stalemate after one period. The Red Raiders outscored PCHS 21-8 in the second stanza to take a 36-23 halftime lead.

The Bears chipped one point off the deficit in the third quarter outscoring Bacon County 15-14 to trail 50-38. BCHS finished the game outpointing the visitors 20-13.

Pierce County was led by the game-high and career- high 27 points of Gabe Varnadore, who hit two treys and was 7-of-8 at the charity stripe. Chez Armstrong (three) was next with 11 points. Parker White (trey) netted nine points with Ryan Pittman adding four points.

FOLKSTON — Charlton County built a double-digit lead in the opening eight minutes and held off the Bears in securing the win.

The Indians jumped out to a 14-4 advantage in the first eight minutes. PCHS sliced the deficit by one in the second quarter outscoring the host 11-10 to trail 24-15 at the break.

Pierce County used a 10-4 scoring advantage in the third period to close to within 28-25. The Indians were able to hold on outscoring PCHS 18-12 in the final stanza.

Varnadore (three treys) paced the Bears with a gamehigh 17 points. Ahmad Arnold followed with nine points with Pittman bagging four points.

Jikeyse McGauley, Marshun Stanford and Tymere Monroe contibuted two points apiece. White netted a free throw.

Christian Brown scored 12 points and Jack Braddock (two threes) finished with 10 points to lead Charlton County.
