PCMS Lady Bears win two of three conference games

Pierce County Middle School’s Lady Bears captured two of three games during a busy week of action.

The Lady Bears knocked off the visiting Lady Bulldogs 35-16 in the Monday, November 18 Southeast Georgia Middle School Athletic Conference matchup.

PCMS fell 45-35 Wednesday, November 20 to visiting Brantley County Middle School. The Lady Bears bounced back Thursday, November 21 to win 41-22 at Ware County Middle School.

Pierce Middle will wrap up its regular season with three games after Thanksgiving. The Lady Bears host Appling County Middle School Monday, December 2. Frederica Academy visits Thursday, December 5 with the finale Monday, December 9 at Bacon County Middle School.

Lady Bears.....................35 Lady Bulldogs ................16 

BEARVILLE — Pierce Middle limited the Lady Bulldogs to single baskets in three of the four quarters to garner the victory.

The Lady Bears jumped out to an 11-2 first quarter lead. Each team scored two points in the second stanza with PCMS holding a 13-4 halftime advantage.

Waycross Middle trimmed two points off the margin outscoring the Lady Bears 10-8 to pull to withing 21-14. PCMS closed the game with a 14-2 run for the final margin.

Harper Larson scored a gamehigh 13 points to lead the Lady Bears. Brylee Walker (trey) and Aubree Wilkins followed with seven points each. Zayleigh Raithel netted five points while Wynn Hodges and Kamil Strickland contributed two points and one point respectively.

Madisyn Daniels topped WMS with six points. Reagan Ash and Jayla Muford each bagged four points. Brazyl Basiden added two points.

Lady Herons ..................45 Lady Bears .....................35 

BEARVILLE — Brantley Middle’s Chloe Johns and Grace Carver combined for 30 points leading the Lady Herons past Pierce Middle.

Johns (two treys) scored 16 of her game-high 17 points in the second half with 12 coming in the fourth quarter. Carver scored nine of her 13 points over the final two periods.

Brooklyn Thomas (three threes) led the Lady Bears with 13 points.

Brantley Middle held a slim 76 lead after one period. The Lady Herons stretched the lead to 1810 by intermission outscoring PCMS 11-4 in the second stanza.

The Lady Bears sliced one point off the deficit during the third quarter outpointing Brantley Middle 10-9 to trail 27-20. The two teams picked up the scoring pace in the final period with the Lady Herons outscoring Pierce Middle 18-15.

Three other players scored for BCMS. Anniston Bowers netted seven points with Allie Gray and Julia Miller adding four points each.

Following Thomas for the Lady Bears was Larson with nine points. Walker and Raithel finished with five points and four points respectively. Strickland and Wilkens bagged two points apiece.

Lady Bears .....................41 Lady Gators....................22 WAYCROSS — Four Lady Bears scored six points or better combining for 31 points in the victory over Ware Middle.

Thomas (three treys) led eight players in the scoring column with a game-high 13 points. Strickland, Walker and Wilkins each scored six points.

Haley Guess was next with four points. Nylah Jackson, Larson and Raithel each contributed two points.

The Lady Gators were led by Lela Reid’s 10 points. Niya Lane bagged six points, Nae Nae Buford finished with four points and Jordyn Powell bagged two points.

PCMS grabbed a first quarter lead it would not relinquish. Trailing 14-6 after one period, the Lady Gators posted its lone scoring edge in the second stanza outscoring the visitors 43 to trail 17-10 at intermission.

The Lady Bears doubled up Ware Middle in the second half with a 24-12 scoring advantage. PCMS outpointed the Lady Gators 12-7 in the third quarter to grab a 36-19 lead. The Lady Bears outscored Ware Middle 12-5 in the final period.
