It is hard to believe Christmas Day is almost here. The past few months seemed to have passed in a moment.
This year I want to feature a story by my middle daughter, Makenzie, who is 8 and is a third grade student at Blackshear Elementary School. Kenzie has a vivid imagination and she wrote an original story for school but it needed some editing and a few tweaks to be readable.
The story goes... Everyone knows the story of Frosty the Snowman but do you know the other half. Let me tell you. The Grinch and Frosty met one Christmas Eve many years ago in a far away town and they have been friends ever since. Then one day a stranger visited the town who did not like Frosty. So the stranger did research and found out Frosty’s hat made him come to life. So the stranger took the hat and ran away and when the Grinch went to visit Frosty he found that he was just a regular snowman. So the Grinch decided to form a team to find Frosty’s magic hat. First, he called Cindy-Lou Hoo. The next morning they set out to search. After searching for what seemed like ages Cindy-Lou said, “I’m tired.” The Grinch said, “So am I.” But they still kept going and finally they reached a village, but it was not a regular village, it was an elf village, because they were very close to the North Pole. They asked if they could stay for the night and the elves said yes. The next morning the Grinch and Cindy-Lou happened to run into another friend, Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer. Rudolph was pulling a sled that was very old and he offered them a ride. Soon after the Grinch and Cindy-Lou could not see very well because a snow storm had set in. They asked Rudolph if his nose could get any brighter? “No,” said Rudolph so he took them to the north pole. When they arrived Santa Claus was surprised to see them and asked, “What are you doing here?” The Grinch told him, “We are looking for Frosty’s magic hat.” Santa told them he had seen a hat fly by that very morning and a moment later Cindy-Lou said, “There it is!” After reaching the hat they found it was indeed Frosty’s magic hat, but it was stuck in a tree. Santa gave them a net and a toy air plane flew up next to the tree knocking the hat out. Cindy-Lou caught the hat just before it hit the ground. Santa and Rudolph returned the Grinch and Cindy-Lou to their village the next morning. They then were able to return Frosty’s hat bringing him back to life. However, the mystery of the stranger who stole Frosty’s hat continues...
The True Reason for
the Christmas Season
As has been a tradition in my family back to my grandfather, Max, let us take a moment and read the description of Jesus’ birth coming from Luke 2:1-20:
And it came to pass in those days that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered. This census first took place while Quirinius was governing Syria. So all went to be registered, everyone to his own city. Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, to be registered with Mary, his betrothed [a] wife, who was with child. So it was, that while they were there, the days were completed for her to be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.
Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.” And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: “Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!” So it was, when the angels had gone away from them into heaven, that the shepherds said to one another, “Let us now go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us.” And they came with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the Babe lying in a manger. Now when they had seen Him, they made widely known the saying which was told them concerning this Child. And all those who heard it marveled at those things which were told them by the shepherds. But Mary kept all these things and pondered them in her heart. Then the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told them. (NKJV)
I hope and pray all of our readers have a very Merry Christmas holiday! This year let us all keep the focus on Jesus and sharing His love to those around us.
On behalf of the staff of The Blackshear Times, we wish you a Merry Christmas!
