The Waycross Journal-Herald’s Christmas tradition, known as the Empty Stocking Fund, is beginning its 2024 drive.
The annual fundraiser collected over $10,000 last year increasing its 39year total to $314,675.64.
The fund, which raises money for those who find themselves facing circumstances whereby there is a lack of sufficient resources for their shortterm situation, is looking to surpass last year’s total with a fifth straight year of reaching the $10,000 mark.
The current streak of four straight years is the longest stretch surpassing a three-year stretch from 2013-15.
Since Head Publishing, LLC. purchased the Waycross Journal-Herald in 2019, a total of $49,997.50 has been raised.
Contributions for the program will be accepted through the month of December. Donations to the fund may be delivered from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., weekdays to the Journal-Herald office at 311 Carswell Avenue or mailed to: Empty Stocking Fund, Journal-Herald P.O. Box 219 Waycross, Ga., 31501 A weekly progress report of the fund will appear on Page 1 of the newspaper.
