Abbott
WAYCROSS — Mr. Rex Morris Abbott, 84, passed peacefully, surrounded by family, Thursday night, November 14, 2024, at Hospice House Satilla after an extended illness.
Mr. Abbott was born June 7, 1940, in Guyton, Ga., to the late Joseph Lemuel Abbott and Emily Josephine McCall Abbott. Mr. Abb ott served in the Air National Guard from 1962 until 1968. He retired from Okefenokee Technical College as Director of Facilities after 38 years of service.
Mr. Abbott was a member of Trinity Methodist Church, and he served as Exalted Ruler of the Elk’s Lodge, Scout Master, OA Lodge Advisor and Silver Beaver Award recipient of the Okefenokee Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America. He also volunteered for many years at Satilla Regional, Mayo Clinic and Memorial Satilla Health.
In addition to his parents, he also was preceded in death by his wife, Dois Elaine Law Abbott; and sister, Billie Jo Wilson.
Survivors include three sons, Jonathan Abbott (Anita) of Waycross, Anthony Abbott (Tammy) of Dacula, and Paul Abbott (Megan) of Augusta; grandchildren, Emily Cox (Mark), Taylor Abbott (Brianna), Brittany Hayes (Foster), Tyler Abbott (Brittany), Caden Abbott, Nathan Abbott (Noelle), Joanna Abbott, Jesse Abbott (Yusun), Joni Abbott and Caiden Seda; great grandchildren, Easton Cox, Sadie Cox, Ann Abbott, Timothy Abbott and Josephine Abbott; brothers- in-law, Donald Wilson and Jim Eudy; sister-inlaw, Linda Eudy; nephew, Bart Wilson; and niece, Janis Williams.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 23, at the Music Funeral Home Chapel. Entombment will follow in Greenlawn Mausoleum. The family will receive friends beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
