Ware Commission highlights

The Ware County Commission met Monday, November 11 for a work session, public hearing and regular monthly meeting at the Administration Building. Commissioners present were Chairman Elmer Thrift, Leonard Burse, Sammy Hendricks, Timothy Lucas, and Jerry Pope. Following are the items considered by the commission: • Reappointment requests: The board reappointed Dennis H. Rollins to the Board of Assessors with the term running from January 1, 2025 through December 31, 2027.

The board reappointed Karla Parker to the Waycross/ Ware County Library Board with the term running from January 1, 2025 through December 31, 2028.

Appointment request: The board appointed Christian Walker to the Board of Assessors with the term running from January 1, 2025 through December 31, 2027.

Purchase request: For GM/Chevy Duramax 6.6 L5P Full Delete Bundle. The board approved the request by EMS Director Bill Parham to install the DEF full delete bundle on two ambulances.

Currently, EMS is running 1 frontline ambulance and 3 reserve ambulances. There are no reserves in case of emergency. The two newest trucks (M6 & M7) are currently at Grady’s Automotive and need to have the Delete Bundle installed to get rid of the DEF systems.

Vehicle Maintenance can install these systems once received.

State inspections are coming up in the next six weeks to keep the ambulances licensed and in service.

Purchase request: Rolling Air/Hydraulic Lift for 30,000 pounds.

Public Works Director Larry Thrift requested to purchase a drive-on lift which has a 307-inch wheelbase and will accommodate dump trucks and ambulances. It includes a 15,000-pound. rolling air/hydraulic lift jack for the 30,000-pound lift. The complete purchase price is $55,489.12 and includes installation and delivery.

Commissioners rejected the request by a 3-2 vote with Burse and Pope yes, and Thrift, Hendricks, and Lucas no.

Rezoning request: 1942 Hazel Street, Parcel 051A04 041 F was approved by the board at the request of landowner Ronney Howell to rezone his property at 1942 Hazel Street, parcel number ’'051A04 041 F from R–50 (residential) to R-50 MH (residential mobile home) for the purpose of placing a single–wide manufactured home on the site.
