Special to the WJH Ka-Lou’sEnrichment Camps, Inc. stages the third annual gang and gun violence awareness event “No More Blood on my Hands” Community Impact Day on Saturday, November 30.
The event will be held from 1 to 6 p.m at the Train Depot, 201 Plant Avenue. Percussionist and Waycross native Jorel “J Fly” Flynn and How-BigIsYourDream Foundation are this year’s event sponsors.
“No More Blood on my Hands” is inspired by the death of three young black men from the Waycross area who were killed as a result of gang and gun violence.
According to U.S. News, “Black Americans, especially young Black men, face 20 times the odds of gun injury compared to whites.
“Black persons made up only 12.6 percent of the U.S. population in 2020, but suffered 61.5 percent of all firearm assault,” noted researchers from Penn Presbyterian Medical Center in Philadelphia in the Annals of Internal Medicine.
Admission to the event is $1, which buys the entrant a wrist band enabling them to shop in a pop up store featuring new clothing, including coats and hats, shoes, and personal care items.
The wrist band also includes a hot lunch and drink.
For those wishing to purchase an alternative lunch fare, food trucks will be available for an additional fee.
There will be free children’s activities throughout the day, and inspirational presentations by a broad selection of speakers, including Waycross Mayor Michael-Angelo James.
Ka-Lou's Enrichment Camps, Inc. is non-profit organization which has operated in Waycross for more than 20 years.
