The annual Pioneer Day event will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2024 from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm at Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge, 4155 Suwannee Canal Road, Folkston All activities will take place at the Chesser Island Homestead along the Swamp Island Drive.
This annual event brings community members and refuge staff together for a fun-filled day packed with traditional swamp living demonstrations and more. Throughout the day activities such as saw palmetto broom making and various kid’s games will be held. Sugarcane grinding and boiling demonstrations will take place with cane juice samples and an upclose look at the process from start to finish.
