Ware County’s grappling Gators notched a pair of home wins before participating in the Battle in the Bay at Brantley County High School.
The Gators notched home wins Tuesday, November 13 over Berrien (49-27) and Appling County (65-17) to improve to 61 on the young season.
At the two-day Battle in the Bay event, the Friday, November 15 portion was a round-robin. During Saturday’s action, the format was an IBT tournament.
David Muchison (165 lbs.) placed second for Ware County. Finishing third were Steve Valdez (106), Rodrigo Reyes (132), Cameron Hambrick (190) and Jalen Hampton (215).

Winning with pins were Rodrigo Reyes (132, 35 seconds), Kaden Drury (157, 2:16), Trey Dean (175, 3:00), Cameron Hambrick (190, 1:44) and Jalen Hampton 11 Win – Fall (215, 50 sec.)
Steve Valdez (113, 15-0) and Jonah Carter (285, 20-4) posted technical fall decisions. David Muchison (165) won by a 15-8 decision. Demarion Zanders (126) won via forfeit.
Losing pinfalls were Noah Paul (120, 2:58), Laith Lairsey (138, 5:17), Evan Thomas (144, 5:39) and Aaron Bennett (150, 5:30). Landon Phillips (106) dropped an 8-2 decision.

Landon Phillips (106) lost a 17-1 technical fall while Steve Valdez (113, 2:30) and Willie Van (175, overtime) fell via pin.
JV vs. Berrien
Ware County’s junior varsity won six of their nine matches with four by pinfall.
Notching the pins wins were Jadon Halladay, Andy Ignacio, LeLand Nettles and Kayden Keen. Wesley Frye recorded an 8-3 decision and Tyler Boyd posted a 9-3 victory.
Chase Briggs and Ryan Tarver suffered pin losses with Bennett Thordeson losing by technical fall.
Battle in the Bay
Steve Valdez (106) went 4-3 with all four wins via pin to finish third.
Noah Paul (120) posted a 2-6 mark with both wins by pin.
Rodrigo Reyes (132) finished third with a 5-1 record. He had four wins by pin.
Laith Lairsey (138) record a 1-8 mark with his lone win by pin.
Evan Thomas (144) finished 4-3 with all four wins coming by pinfall.
Aaron Bennett (150) notched a 6-4 mark with pins in each of his wins.
Kaden Drury (157) went 2-3 with both wins via pin.
