Sallet family has free dinner Nov. 21 The Sallet Family Thanksgiving Dinner will be held at noon, Thursday, November 21 at 818 Summit Street.

Family members have been providing free meals for the homeless and less fortunate annually during the Thanksgiving season for 13 years.

Dementia support group organized The Refinery, 522 Miles Still Road, is the site for a support group program for dementia caregivers.

The group meets from 4 to 5 p.m., the second Tuesday of each month. The next meeting is December 10.

Volunteers sought for Bicentennial The Ware County Bicentennial Committee is seeking volunteers for its celebration events Friday- Sunday, December 13-15.

Help is needed from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Saturday and from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Hours and responsibilities are flexible for volunteers. Registration in advance is requested.

Volunteers are need to assist with set up, clean up, stage changes, facilitating games, manning jump houses, assisting guests with information requests, sales counter (swag), and hospitality duties.

Waycross NAACP meets Nov. 21 The Waycross Branch of the NAACP holds its General Membership meeting at 5:30 p.m., Thursday, November 21 at American Legion Post 517, 710 Dorothy Street.

Pioneer Day at refuge Nov. 23

The Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge , 2700 Suwannee Canal Road, Folkston, holds its annual Pioneer Day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, November 23.

All activities will take place at the Chesser Island Homestead.

The event brings the community and refuge staff together for a funfilled day packed with traditional swamp living demonstrations such as saw palmetto broom making and sugarcane grinding and boiling. In addition to the demonstrations and activities for children, visitors can explore the homestead property and tour the Chesser house.

Legion Post 517 meets Nov. 20 American Legion Post 517, 710 Dorothy Street, holds a meeting for all officers and members at 7 p.m. today (Wednesday, November 20).

‘Taste of Chamber’ set November 21 The Waycross-Ware County Chamber of Commerce holds its annual “Taste of the Chamber” at 5:30 p.m., Thursday, November 21 at the C.C. Mc-Cray City Auditorium, 865 Pendleton Street.

The event brings together local restaurants and food services for a competition in a variety of culinary and beverage categories.
