Okefenokee Heritage Center Executive Director Carla Garrett Cornett wouldn’t let a major hurricane slow her down.

With the help of the ever vigilant Sherri Barnes, dedicated volunteers George Marnaday, Danny and Judy Barnes, creative team Benji and Tracey Nelson and sheer force of will, she managed to produce an evening of free music and fun for the community.

The group gathered Friday, October 11 under the stars to present a montage of Broadway songs entitled “A Night at the Depot” and included a surprise performance by Cornett herself. Dr. William Clark spoke in memory of his late mother, Mrs. Sue Clark, founder of the OHC.

The production was the first from the newly established OHC Performing Arts Guild.

“A Night at the Depot” was sponsored by the Waycross Convention & Visitors Bureau, CSX and Coca-Cola Bottling Company as a City of Waycross Sesquicentennial and Ware County Bicentennial event.

The Okefenokee Heritage Center is located at 1460 N. Augusta Ave. For more information including hours, prices, and participation in guilds and classes visit www.okefenokeeheritagecenter. org or call 912-285-4260.
