Nearly 10,000 early votes cast in Ware County

Just more than 46 percent of Ware County’s eligible voters cast a ballot during the early voting period for Tuesday’s General Election.

A total of 9,976 votes were recorded over the 17-day early period October 15November 1, said Carlos Nelson, supervisor for the Ware County Board of Elections and Registration. That represents 46.1 percent of the county’s 23,193 registered voters.

By comparison, 8,906 voted early in the November 2020 General Election and 6,763 of those eligible cast ballots in advance of the November 2016 General Election.

Nelson said 865 absentee ballots were mailed through the October 25 deadline, an 713 of those were returned. There were 18 absentee ballots still pending verification.

All absentee ballots needed to be returned through the mail or delivered to the board office by the close of the polls at 7 p.m. Tuesday, November 5.

The opening day total of 944 votes remained the highest throughout the period. The next highest was 847 cast October 18.

The highest weekend total was October 19 when 293 votes were recorded. A total of 661 votes came on the three weekend days — two Saturdays and a Sunday.

Weekday voting was held at the Board of Elections Office and the Ware County Administration Building.

The board will meet at 3 p.m. Friday, November 8 to certify the vote. If there needs to be a runoff for any of the seats, it will be held Tuesday, December 3 with an early voting period beginning Monday, November 18 and continuing through Friday, November 29.
