WAYCROSS — Mr. Glenn V. Jones, 93, of Waycross passed away Friday, November 1, 2024.

He was born July 31, 1931 in Isabella (Chilton County), Ala. Jones lived most of his life in Wayc ross where he was a dev oted husband, loving father and beloved “Papa.”

Above all else, Jones had a strong and abiding relationship with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was known for his character, faithfulness, and commitment to those he cared for.

Jones was a patriot and proudly served his country as a pilot in the United States Air Force for three years where he was honorably discharged. He then went on to serve in the Air National Guard of Georgia.

He graduated from Alabama Polytechnic Institute, now Auburn University, where he obtained a degree in agriculture science and later earned a master’s degree in education from Western Carolina University. Jones was an educator and a principal for more than 30 years where he was greatly respected for his leadership and advocacy on behalf of his students, staff, and teachers.

He was a long-time member of First Baptist Church Waycross where he faithfully served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher and leader. Jones was a pillar in the Waycross community where he served in the Civitan Men’s Club in addition to serving on multiple local boards.

He is survived by his wife of more than 65 years, Barbara Crispin Jones; children, Renee Jones (Brian) Thomason and Alan Jones; grandchildren Emily Grace (Jake) Cole, Peter Brian (Taylor) Thomason, and Christopher Glenn Thomason; and greatgrandchildren Ben Thomason, Tim Thomason, and Thomas Cole; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ezekiel Span Jones and Novice Woolley Jones of Chilton County, Ala.; and siblings Andrew (Willie Mae) Jones, Forestdale, Ala., Chalmus (Mary) Jones, Ocala, Fla, Lloyd (Marilyn) Jones, Decatur, Ala., and Sara Nell (Coy) Rasberry, Jemison, Ala.

Celebration of Life will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, November 9 at Greenlawn Cemetery in Waycross with the Rev. Mark Williams officiating. Visitation with the family will be at 9:45 a.m. prior to the service.
