WAYCROSS — The Rev. Larry Obediah Barber, 78, of Waycross, died Monday morning, October 28, 2024, at Baptist Village Retirement Communities after a brief illness.

Rev. Barber was born in Waycross to the late Robert Leo Barber and Rhoda Mizell Barber. He had made Manor his home for many years before moving to Waycross. Rev. Barber was a graduate of Ware County High School.

He studied electrical and computer science at Georgia Tech and later earned a degree in Sleep Medicine in Atlanta. In his early 20s, Rev. Barber played in a Rock ‘n’ Roll band called “The Wanderers.” One night in Jacksonville, Fla., they were one of the opening bands for the Rolling Stones.

Rev. Barber worked as an electrician where he spent time working for Coley Electric and Smith Electric. During his ministry, Rev. Barber served Faith Temple, Williams Chapel and Winona Park Methodist Church.

At Winona Park, Rev. Barber also served as a Sunday School teacher. He always loved volunteering to help others. He served as a House Captain in Waycross for Rebuilding Together. Rev. Barber was also the recipient of the Martha Murray Sunshine Award.

More than anything, Rev. Barber enjoyed any moment he was able to spend with family and friends.

Along with his parents, Rev. Barber was also preceded in death by a grandson, Caden Lee Musgrove; two sisters, Barbara Ann Ferrante and Sylvia Caswell; and two brothers, Lamar Barber and William Barber.

Rev. Barber is survived by two daughters, Tasha Musgrove and her husband, Chris, of Blackshear and Miranda Barber of Denver, Colo.; one granddaughter, Madelyn Musgrove of Thomasville; two sisters, Judy Hiers and Regenia Williamson; and two brothers, Paul Barber and his wife, Patty, and Joel Barber and his wife, Bambi; additional family, Sonya and Scott Wilkerson, their children, Delana Tarnok, Austin Wilkerson, and Brittany Wilkerson, as well as their three children; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

A funeral service was held Saturday, November 2 in the Miles-Odum Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in Kettle Creek Cemetery.
