Ignoring God has expensive price tag

Several years ago, a radio station with the call letters FM-106 asked its listeners what was the first thing they’d said after waking up.

The third caller each day would win, you guessed it, $106! One groggy voice said, “Do I smell coffee burning?”

Another sleepy voice said, “Oh no, I’m late for work!”

A woman said, “Did I put the dog out last night?” A muffled voice cursed in the background and said, “No, you didn’t!”

It was a great success until one morning a Bronx accent on the other end of the phone said, “You want to know my first words in the morning? Shema, Israel ... Hear O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one.

And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your might.”

There was a long silencebefore the announcer said, “Sorry, wrong number,” and cut to a commercial.

It’s always quite awkward when the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob appears in a world that is largely ignorant of Him and often refuses to even believe in His existence.

But Revelation reminds us about a time when the Son of God will appear in his creation.

“Then I saw heaven open, and there was a white horse. Its rider is called Faithful and True; it is with justice that he judges and fights his battles. His eyes were like a flame of fire, and he wore many crowns on his head. He had a name written on him, but no one except himself knows what it is. The robe he wore was covered with blood. His name is ‘The Word of God.’” — Revelation 19: 12-13

He promised to come back, and he will. He will burn away all the pretense of evil and re-establish his authority over the creation he died to redeem.

And, after coming as a newborn baby to redeem the world, he’ll now come as the King of kings and Lord of lords to reclaim the earth.

“The armies of heaven followed him, riding on white horses and dressed in clean white linen.”

— Revelation 19: 14
