The Waycross Exchange Club has selected James Cole Cox as its October Youth of the Month, Cox, the son of Larry and Jessica Cox, was recognized at a club luncheon meeting last month. The honoree ranks 13th of in a senior class of 369 at Ware County High School.
Cox’s activities and honors at WCHS include:
• Varsity football for four years (team captain for 2024);
• Member of the Gators’ 2022 State Championship team;
• Member of the two-time Region Champion varsity baseball team;
• Varsity basketball for one season;
• Named 2023 first team All-Region Infielder;
• Named 2024 first team All-Region utility player and pitcher;
• Named 2024 first team Class AAAAA All-State utility infielder.
• Recipient of the UGA Certificate of Merit;
• Member of the 2022-23 President’s List at Coastal Pines Technical College;
• Member of the 2023-2024 President’s List at South Georgia State College;
• Member of National Honor Society;
• Member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes;
• Member of National Beta Club;
• Member of DECA Club. Cox’s community service activities include:
• Member of Trinity Methodist Youth;
• Member of the Waycross Bank & Trust Junior Board;
• Host of Gator Bites podcast;
• Buddy for Miracle League.
After graduation from high school, Cox said he plans to attend the University of Georgia on a medical track to become an anesthesiologist.
Cox will be one of seven high school seniors who excel in academics, athletics, and good citizenship throughout high school.
These students receive a plaque and complete an essay in the spring to determine the Youth of the Year. The Youth of the Year will receive a $500 scholarship.
The Waycross Exchange Club winner advances to the district competition, usually held in Columbus, where they will have an opportunity to win a $1,500 scholarship.
The district winner will go on to the national competition with an opportunity for a $15,000 scholarship.
