Nearly one-third of Ware County’s 23,193 registered voters cast ballots during the first 13 days of early voting for next week’s General Election.
Supervisor of Elections Carlos Nelson said Monday a total of 7,202 people (31 percent) had voted in person or via absentee ballot through Sunday, October 27. Of that total, 6,610 were in person.
Early voting is available through Friday, November 1 at both the Board of Elections office, 408 Tebeau Street, and the Ware County Administration Building, 305 Oak Street.
Through Sunday, October 27, 5,756 had voted at the elections office. The early period’s first day, October 15, remains the highest concentration of inperson voters when 944 cast ballots with the next highest at 847 coming three days later.
The three weekend days, October 19 and 26-27, drew 661 voters total. Voting hours through Friday at the two locations are 7:30 a.m.-6 p.m.
The last day to request an absentee ballot was Friday, October 25. All absentee ballots must be delivered by mail or be in the hands of election officials by the close of the polls at 7 p.m. November 5.
Voting on Election Day Tuesday, November 5 will be 7 a.m.-7 p.m., at locations around the county.
Nelson said the Board of Elections will convene at 7:30 a.m. November 5 to handle any issues that arise during the voting day. He said the vote will be certified in a meeting at 3 p.m. Friday, November 8.
In addition to Presidential and the First District House of Representative races, a contested seat on the Waycross City Commission also is on the ballot.
The post is for District 1 where Willie Oliver, Shawn Roberts and Jené Walker have qualified. The seat has been vacant since the death of longtime Commissioner Norman Davis in March.
Barring the need for a runoff, which would be held Tuesday, December 3, the winner will be sworn in when the vote is certified. That will allow the new commissioner to participate in the commission’s final meetings of the month Monday-Tuesday, November 18-19.
