Armed robbery ends in car chase; teens take officers on chase

Both the Ware County Sherff’s Office and Waycross Police Department were involved in high-speed car chases Friday.

Sheriff’s office deputies and WPD officers responded to an armed robbery at 8:06 p.m.

According to Waycross Police Department Capt. Benji Hersey, suspect Charles C. Holton held up a store at gun point and then led law enforcement on a chase.

The chase ended when law enforcement used the PIT (Precision Immobilization Technique) maneuver at Corridor Z and Augusta Avenue to stop the suspect.

Holton was taken into custody and has been charged with Armed Robbery, Fleeing or Attempting to Elude a Police Officer, Reckless Driving and DUI (Driving under the Influence of Alcohol).

A separate chase ensued in the 1000 block of Tebeau Street at approximately 9:30 p.m.

A victim left their running vehicle to enter a nearby establishment. Two juveniles entered the vehicle and drove off.

While officers interviewed the victim on Tebeau Street, the 13-year-old and 16-year-old car thieves crashed the vehicle in the 1000 block of Ozzie Davis Parkway.

They were apprehended.
