James Ernest ‘Jimbo’ Brasington

WAYCROSS — James Ernest “Jimbo” Brasington, 80, of Waycross, passed away surrounded by his loving family Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at Hospice Satilla after an extended illness.

Brasington was born in Waycross, September 27, 1944, to the late Walter Henry Brasington, Sr. and Virginia Ann Gloss Brasington. In addition to his parents, he also was predeceased by his brother, Walter Henry Brasington, Jr.; sister-inlaw, Helen Penelope Hayes Brasington; stepmother, Evelyn Lea Darley Brasington; and brotherin- law, Ronald Bartlett Clements, Sr.

Brasington was a 1962 graduate of Waycross High School. He graduated from The University of Georgia with a Bachelor’s degree in business administration and a minor in economics. He was a member of Sigma Pi Fraternity.

Brasington taught at North Fulton High School and coached junior varsity football before beginning his career in insurance with Shenandoah Life Insurance Company in Atlanta. While with Shenandoah Life, he was a member of the Million Dollar Round Table numerous times. After receiving his Chartered Life Underwriter designation in 1973, Brasington was a group health and life insurance broker for many years. He retired in 2014 as President of Planned Benefits Marketing, Inc.

As a member of the Waycross Jaycees, Brasington received the Jaycee of the Year award two times and served two terms as president. He was a lifelong member of Trinity Methodist Church and enjoyed his years in the Big Brothers Sunday School class. As a passionate Georgia Bulldogs fan, he had an amazing recollection of plays, players, and scores, even throughout his illness.

Brasington is survived by his wife, Olivia Clements Brasington; two daughters, Virginia Buff Brasington Visicaro and Anna Olivia Brasington, both of Waycross; his sister, Mary Helen Brasington Gibson (Charlie); sister-in-law, Jo Clements Saye (Jake); and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, November 1 at Trinity Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, October 31 at Miles-Odum Funeral Home.

The family would like to express its appreciation to the staffs of Baptist Village, Memorial Satilla Health, and Hospice Satilla for their compassionate care.
