Lott
WAYCROSS — Mrs. Cheryl Johnson Lott died peacefully at home on Sunday, October 20, 2024, after a five-and-ahalf- year battle with multiple medical problems.
She was born on January 8, 1953, a birthday she proudly shared with Elvis Presley. Mrs. Lott grew up in Miami and gradu ated from South Miami High School. Her adventurous spirit led her to take off to Mississippi, where she knew no one, to get her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing. After graduation, she moved to Jacksonville, Fla., where she was employed as an Emergency Room nurse at Baptist Hospital. It was there she met Dan, her soulmate of more than 45 years.
When Dan finished his residency, they got married, went to Bermuda on their honeymoon, bought their first home, built an office and started an OBGYN practice, all within a four-week period.
Mrs. Lott’s passion was spoiling her five grandchildren, tennis and travel. She took many trips to Europe, Central America, the Caribbean, Australia and New Zealand. As she got older and could no longer terrorize the tennis courts, she began playing golf.
Mrs. Lott served in many positions at First United Methodist Church of Waycross, with her favorite being the Children’s Choir Director. She was well-loved by all the children because she bribed them with candy. She was in several women’s clubs and enjoyed having her home used for many charitable events.
After her children were grown, Mrs. Lott returned to her first love, the emergency room, where for many years she served as a nursing instructor. A true lover of animals, she and Dan bought a farm and moved to Millwood where she cared for cows, chickens, miniature ponies, ducks and many dogs.
Mrs. Lott was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Margaret Johnson.
She is survived by her husband, Dan; two sons, Brian (Jackie), and Matt (Ciaira); five grandchildren, Travis, Emma, Kenadie, Creston and Sydni; two brothers, Bill (Joan) and Ron (Susan); her sisters- in-law, Susan Watkins (Lee), and Nancy Trudeau; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, October 24, 2024, at First United Methodist Church in Waycross. The family will receive friends Thursday beginning at 10 a.m., in the church social hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Samaritan’s Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, N.C., 28607, or to the American Red Cross to aid the victims of Hurricane Helene.
