Dr. John Powell, a Waycross native and former local pediatrician, took his audience at the Aglow Lighthouse gathering on a Christian witness journey emphasizing, “We need God. Pray for our government. When we vote, it has an impact on people coming to Jesus. It has effects.’’
The evangelist/missionary who is leading Global Missions Initiative working to establish a foundation for revival in Venezuela and other South American countries, said, “My desire is to mobilize God’s people to take the Gospel of the Kingdom to all nations and people groups in the world.’’
Powell and his family currently live on a mission in Bogota, Colombia. His wife, Elsa Hernandez Powell, reaches out to people in Venezuela also. They have two children Mike and Gaby.
“There is nothing more powerful than prayer,” Powell told the Saturday , October 12 gathering. “Americans need to knowwhatIsawandwhatIdidinVene-zuela 25 years ago. We need to pray to do away with evil, curse the institution of evil. I speak against evil.”
“We need to be boldly standing and praying America will stand with Israel — be against all evil. Listen to the will of God and make a stand. Make a moment of long time investment. Do what we can to share the love of God.’’
In describing his mission and his dedicated workers for Christ, Dr. Powell showed his audience slides depicting workers for missions in worship and witnessing. These include churches in prisons, and various Christian groups pointing people to the Savior.
He said they give study Bibles to pastors, adding “It’s a big part of our missions to give Bibles. Our ministry is how we can empower people to go and do.
“I’m thankful to work with the governments and to witness. By grace of God and by faith you’re saved. Miracles come by faith.’’
He stressed, “We love to teach pastors who can go out and impact the people. They go house to house and have found people who’ave never heard of Jesus and the Gospel.’’
Describing the work done in Venezuela and Columbia, Dr. Powell said he has seen many many people saved through mission work. He said Grace and Faith seminars are among the group of outreach programs. He added they’ve shipped about 2,000 Bibles on a bus to Venezuela.
“The truth of Jesus will change people. There are so many ways to get the gospel out. We use everything we can. God rewards your sacrifices to serve,’’ Dr. Powell said.
