Wainright’s sponsors blood drive

The October Waycross Community blood drive is much anticipated by many blood donors in the area.

They know that for many years, Wainright's Sausage has sponsored the drive at the Waycross Exchange Club, 2401 Knight Avenue. As part of its sponsorship, the Nahunta business gives away 20, two-pound packs of its renowned sausage to lucky donors at the October drive, which is from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, October 28.

Additionally, Wainright's is contributing hundreds of dollars in cash door prizes for the donors to win.

“We have people who wait for the Wainright blood drive before donating as they want some of that sausage and they know Wainright’s has been our October partner the past several years,” said Gary Griffin, a member of the Waycross Area Blood Drive Volunteers. “If they don't win free Wainright’s sausage there’s about a 2-to-1 shot they'll win some cash.”

Griffin said there will be a top prize of $100 as well as two of $50 and dozens of $20 on the door prize table, courtesy of Wainright's.

“We’ll have, I think, 44 prizes we'll be giving away at random,' Griffin said. 'Most of them will be courtesy of Wainright's, but we also have prizes from Capt. Joe’s, Breezy’s Boutique, Jerry J’s and Helping Hands Home Health ... and other local business partners.”

Recent monthly drives have attracted between 88 and 122 donors, who’ve been able to give blood.

He said the Waycross Area Blood Drive Volunteers are lucky to have good support from corporate sponsors.

“Dubberly Glass has been a very generous sponsor for the month of November, and the December drive is very popular as it is held as a tribute the memory of Paul Tang, the friendly (Wong’s) restaurateur for many years,” he said. “Robbie Roberson Ford has been eager to help us, as always. Walker-Jones Automotive, Locomotive Specialist,... I could go on. We’re blessed.”

Refreshments are provided to donors at every drive. Waycross Coca-Cola and Domino’s Pizza contribute refreshments while the Red Cross and the drive volunteers provide snacks, fruit and pastries.”
