Special to the WJH Waycross native Dr. John Powell is the guest speaker for the Saturday, October 12 Waycross Aglow Lighthouse meeting at 1o a.m. at Our Beloved Church, 1700 Osceola Avenue.
Powell and his wife, Elsa Hernandez, currently live on a mission in Bogota, Colombia. The pediatrician is leading Global Missions Initiative working to establish a foundation for revival in Venezuela and other key South American countries.
His desire is to mobilize God’s people to take the Gospel of the Kingdom to all nations and people in the world. “When Dr. Powell is in the area, he’s always welcome to come share God’s Word with us when schedules allow,” Aglow president Rosalind Eskew said.
After graduation from high school in 1973, Powell attended the Medical College of Georgia which led to serving as a pediatrician in the U.S. Army. Upon discharge, he returned home to open a practice while also serving as director of a short-term medical mission ministry. In 1993 he sold his practice and moved to Venezuela as a full-time missionary and pastor.
