SAVANNAH — Rep. “Buddy” Carter met with Emergency Management Agencies (EMAs) in Wayne, Pierce, Ware and Glynn counties to tour Hurricane Helene damage and receive an update on the First Congressional District’s recovery.
“Thank you to the brave first responders, EMA employees, linemen and everyone who is stepping up to keep Georgia’s First Congressional District safe in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene,” said Carter after his Tuesday, October 1 visit. “The damage, especially to our growers, farmers, and producers, cannot be overstated. My prayers are with everyone who is grieving the loss of life and property following this historic destruction. I’m calling on Congress to swiftly approve all necessary funding to assist our community’s recovery and am ready to return to Washington to get the job done.”
Rep. Carter has been in constant communication with the White House, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and Governor Brian Kemp to expand the Major Disaster Declaration to include all impacted First District counties. This declaration releases federal funding to help the recovery of communities and individuals impacted by Hurricane Helene.
Currently, the qualifying First District counties include Appling, Bacon, Chatham, Liberty, Pierce, and Ware.
