Former Florida resident says one storm is enough

Debi Jones, a retired social work coordinator from Ware County, and her sister live together in Waycross.

Helene left them with no power for five days, and no water for four. They were fortunate not to have damage to their home or vehicles. Jones credits the generosity of her neighbors for their ability to remain in their home during this time.

“I’ve never seen neighbors be like our neighbors have been,” said Jones. “The morning the storm hit Tony and Kitty Rogers, who live across the street, knocked on our door first thing saying, ‘We fixed you all breakfast ... get the word out ... I’m serving chicken gumbo at 1 o’clock for the neighborhood.

“People have just come out of the woodwork to help one another. I’ve just never seen such unity. We grew up in Panama City, Fla. We’ve had hurricanes and tornadoes all our lives. This is the worst I have ever seen in our life time.

“One storm’s all we need here in Waycross. God has been so good to us. He has continued to sustain us through it all.”
