Lady Gators drop region tilt at Perry

PERRY — Homestanding Region 1 pace-setter Perry finished off the season sweep of Ware County recording a 16-4 “mercy rule” decision.

The Lady Panthers (11-5 overall, 2-0 region) stretched their winning streak to three games Tuesday, September 17 while snapping the Lady Gators’ (3-10-1, 2-1) winning streak at three games in four innings.

Perry won the August 27 matchup at WCHS notching a 10-2 victory in five innings.

Ware County traveled Monday, September 23 to Brantley County. The Lady Gators host Brunswick in a doubleheader Thursday, September 26.

WCHS will play sixthranked region foe Wayne County in a home-andhome series Tuesday, October 1 in Jesup and Wednesday, October 2 at home. Coffee visits Thursday, October 3.

The Lady Panthers spotted Ware County a quick 3-0 lead before scoring 16 of the final 17 runs to win the four-inning affair.

The Lady Gators scored three times in the first inning after two outs. Molly Smith (1-for-3) lined a leadoff single with Kara Coleman reaching when her fly ball to center was misplayed.

After Ashlyn Jacobs (1-for-2) hit into a fielder’s choice retiring Smith at third, Amberley Padgett’s (1-for-1) ensuing single loaded the bases. Reagan Middleton hit into a second fielder’s choice with Coleman forced out.

Kallie Lairsey drew a two-out walk forcing home Jacobs with the first run. Ella Musgrove (1-for-2) followed with a first-pitch, bloop single to left scoring Padgett and Middleton for a 3-0 advantage.

Perry responded with two runs in the bottom of the frame to cut the deficit to 3-2. The Lady Panthers scored three batters in on a run-scoring single and a one-out, RBI single against LeMay (3 IP, 10 H, 7 R, 7 ER, 3 K, 2 BB, 3 WP).

Ware County extended the margin to 4-2 with a run in the second. Paislee Wildes (1-for-2) drove a 2-1 pitch to right for a leadoff double. She scored from second on a one-out pop up to third when the ball was thrown away.

The Lady Panthers pushed home five runs in the bottom of the inning to grab a 7-4 lead with the big blow a three-run homer to center breaking a 4-all tie.

Perry hit three two-run homers as part of a nine-run eruption in the bottom of the third. The other three runs were scored on a wild pitch, passed ball and a sacrifice fly.
