Lady Herons win streak reaches 9

Brantley County extended its season-best winning streak to nine games with a Region 1A three-game sweep of Berrien.

The Lady Herons (14-5 overall, 9-5 region) rallied for a 5-4 victory in Nashville in the Tuesday, September 17 series opener. Brantley County notched a pair of “mercy rule” home wins Thursday, September 19 posting a 9-1 win in the first game of the doubleheader and 9-0 in the nightcap.

BCHS hosted Ware County Monday, September 23 and region foe Thomasville Tuesday in Game 1 of the three-game series. The Lady Herons travel Thursday, September 26 for a twinbill against the Lady Bulldogs.

Brantley County will host Charlton County Thursday, October 3 in the lone game in the next-to-last week of the regular season.

NASHVILLE — Brantley County overcame a 3-1 deficit taking the lead for good with a three-run fifth inning to beat the Lady Rebels.

Brooklyn Wildes (2-for-4) and Sydnee Davis (2-for-3, double) each blasted homers. The roundtripper was the second for Wildes and team-leading fifth for Davis.

Lydia Anderson led the way at the plate going 4for-4 with a stolen base. Lexi Byrd (2-for-3, double) also joined the multi-hit list. Kelsie Bishop (1-for-4, double) recorded a hit.

Chelsea Turner scattered seven hits in the complete game performance. She allowed four runs, all unearned, with seven strikeouts and three walks.

Streak

Brantley County broke a scoreless tie with a run in the top of the third inning. The Lady Rebels responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning and added another run in the fourth for a 3-1 lead.

The Lady Herons grabbed a 4-3 lead in the top of the fifth with a three-run rally. They added a run in the sixth for a two-run advantage. Berrien plated a run in the bottom of the inning cutting the deficit to 5-4.

CANEY BAY — Reagan Mclain surrendered just two hits, getting backing from a five-run first inning by the Lady Herons.

Berrien’s lone run of the after came in the second against Mclain (6 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 4 K, 2 BB, 1 HBP, 1 WP). BCHS scored twice in the fifth ending the game via “mercy rule” with two runs in the sixth.

Mclain helped her own cause going 2-for-2 with a double and a RBI. Jayden Lewis (2-for-3, double, three runs batted in) and Anderson (2-for-4, double, stolen base) also recorded multi-hit games. Turner (1-for-3, RBI) collected Brantley County’s other base hit.

CANEY BAY — Brantley County pulled away from a 3-0 first inning advantage, putting the game away with a five-run fourth to win the nightcap.

Mary Hall (5 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 3 K, 0 BB) shut down the Lady Rebels bats, needing just 67 pitches over five innings.

Mclain (3-for-3, double, three RBIs) and Lewis (2-for-2, RBI) led the Lady Herons offensive outburst.

Rilee Story (1-for-2, RBI, Hall (1-for-3, double, three ribbies), Anderson (1-for-3, stolen base), Wildes (1-for-4) and Davis (1-for-1) added a hit apiece.
