Susan Lynn Pritchard Douglas

WAYCROSS — Mrs. Susan Lynn Pritchard Douglas, age 72, of Blackshear, passed away Saturday afternoon, September 14, 2024, at her sister’s residence in Waycross following an extended illness.

Born September 26, 1951, in Tifton, she was a daughter of the late Elmer Eug ene “Gene” and Lillian Ruth Arrington Pritchard.

Mrs. Douglas and her family moved to Pierce County in 1963, and she was a 1969 graduate of Blackshear High School. She received her bachelor’s degree in education and her master’s degree in education from Valdosta State University. She retired from the Pierce County Board of Education, having taught for many years at Grady Street Elementary and Blackshear Elementary.

A member of First Baptist Church in Blackshear, Mrs. Douglas attended the Workers for Christ Sunday School Class and the JOY Group, and had served on mission trips to Haiti and Honduras.

She enjoyed trips to Daytona Beach with family and friends, and enjoyed traveling to other interesting locations, most recently taking an Alaskan cruise and a bus tour of New England.

Mrs. Douglas loved watching the Pierce County Bears and the University of Georgia football teams, especially when the Bulldogs games included “steak night” with her family.

Other joys included shopping trips with her lady friends, lunches with her group of retired teachers, and lunch dates with

Douglas her special friends-YaYa’s: Pam Walker, Glenna Strickland, Cassie Todd, Jane Bowen, Deborah Walker, and Judy Dixon.

Along with her close friends, Pam Walker and Glenna Strickland, they began the Big Z Warehouse Sale, a longtime sale featuring many types of vendors who drew thousands to the Blackshear community looking for deals. She also was a dog lover and raised cocker spaniels for years with her husband.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Douglas was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Hayes Douglas.

Survivors include her two siblings, Marty Sikes (husband Freddie) of Waycross, and Tommy Pritchard (wife Beth) of Blackshear; nieces and nephews, Neile and Ben Bennett of Blackshear, Wade and Crystal Horsting of Perry, Joli and Jason Stretch of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Jeff and Mandi Pritchard of Overland Park, Kan.; numerous great nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.

A funeral service was held Tuesday at First Baptist Church in Blackshear with Dr. Justin Gambrell and Dr. Bill Young officiating. Burial followed in Oakland Cemetery in Waycross.
