The Ware County Board of Elections and Registration will conduct Logic and Accuracy Testing this month for the voting systems to be used in the General Election, Tuesday, November 5.
Supervisor Carlos Nelson reported at the board’s meeting Tuesday the process will take place no sooner than Thursday, September 19. He said the exact date will depend on receiving the database from the Secretary of State’s Office (SoS).
Nelson said when the database is in hand, L&A testing will begin. It is expected to take two to three days to complete.
The process is open to the public, Nelson said.
“Representatives of political parties and bodies, news media, and the public are permitted to observe such tests,” he said.
Present at the September 10 meeting were Chairman Danny Bartlett, Vice Chair Dr. Rodney Brown along with members Marian Solomon-Gaines, Ludeane Whitfield, and newly seated member Vernon Chambless.
Nelson also gave a recap of the secure election tabletop training sponsored last month by the SoS. The exercise was intended to bring local election officials and law enforcement personnel together to discuss operational plans and response scenarios to prepare for upcoming elections.
The event was held August 21 at the Glynn County Emergency Management complex. Attending from Ware County were Sheriff Carl James, Major Danny Hampton from the Waycross Police Department, Bartlett, and Nelson.
In other business, the board said early processing and tabulation of absentee ballots will begin at 10 a.m. on Election Day. After that, any remaining absentee ballots and any provisional ballots cast will be scanned beginning at 5 p.m. on Friday, November 8.
No results from the voting in the General Election will be available until after 7 p.m., Election Day.
