William Luther ‘Dub’ Peacock, Sr.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Mr. William Luther “Dub” Peacock, Sr., 76, died Saturday morning, September 7, 2024, at Community Hospice Morris Center for Caring.

He was born January 18, 1948 in Wayne County to the late Luther Moultrie Peacock and Virginia Elaine Johnson Peacock. Dub graduated from Pierce County High

School, and served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.

He served in the Georgia National Guard for 11 years and retired from CSX Transportation as a conductor after 24 years of service.

Dub was a member of University Boulevard Church of God. He enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, making people laugh by pulling pranks, and spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Wanda Bennett Peacock of Waycross; three children, James Benjamin “Ben” Peacock (Tracy) of Covington, Ga., William Luther “Bill” Peacock, Sr. (Audrey T.) of Waycross, and Mary Inez Peacock Vining (Shaun) of Waycross; grandchildren, Heather Lee Clark (Matthew), Hope Peacock, Hannah Peacock, Ina Peacock, Onnie Peacock, Betty Peacock, Susan Peacock, Jackie Peacock, Hailey Harrell, Harley Vining, Alyssa Vining, Tony Wallace, and Kyle Wilkerson (Mindy); 14 great grandchildren; siblings, Demory Peacock (Chandra), Gwen Barber (Bill), Sue Dowling and Wray Peacock all of Blackshear; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 14 at Indian Mound Baptist Church in Millwood. Burial will follow in Mt. Green Cemetery. The family will receive friends beginning at 5 p.m. Friday at the church.
