Citizens hear another view on swamp WHS

Alex Newman, an award-winning international journalist, educator, author and nationally syndicated radio host was the guest of Americans for the Okefenokee to provide information on the United Nations, UNESCO, and the World Heritage Site designation.

The heavily attended event was held Thursday, August 22 at the Waycross Exchange Club.

Many attendees among the estimated 200 were also at the August 13 open forum held at the City Auditorium. One thing that was clear from both events — no one wants anything to happen to the natural beauty of the Okefenokee Swamp.

Citizens at the Exchange Club and those who viewed the Facebook livestream, were educated on Newman’s view of the oversight organizations – the United Nations and its subsidiary, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

Newman used selections from documents from UNESCO’s website to support his presentation including the Operational Guidelines for the Implementations of the World Heritage Convention.

Newman compared UNESCO’s goal with the Bible, “Whatever God teaches, flip it upside down.”

“If the Swamp is designated a World Heritage Site, you probably won’t have blue helmeted, gun toting, child raping UN troops outside your swamp anytime in the very near future,” he said. “But, the influence will be there, and these are not the kind of people you want to get involved with ... this is just the tip of the iceberg. They are the tentacle from the plot from hell and I am not even being facetious.”

Newman concluded by asking, “Where do we go from here?

“First thing is, ‘Obey our Constitution.’ Use the Constitution to defund programs and agencies and use it to fight back against federal government abuse by filing lawsuits.

“The enemy has taken lawfare to an unprecedented weapon against patriotic and religious citizens. Refuse federal money, because with the carrot comes the strings that tie you to federal control.

“Another carrot the apologists proclaim, ‘Tourism will increase, more jobs will be created, and you are going to get more money in your pocket.’”
