James Allen Crump Sr., 74, of Hazlehurst, passed away Thursday, November 3, 2022, at Community Hospice in Vidalia.
Born in Blackshear March 19, 1948, he had lived in Hazlehurst most of his adult life. He was a 1966 graduate of Blackshear High School and went on to further his education at Georgia Southern College receiving a bachelor’s in rducation in 1971 followed by a master’s of rducation and rducation specialist degree. He taught at Jeff Davis High School for 35 years, retiring in 2005. He enjoyed woodworking and hunting. A true problem solver, he could fix anything – even over the telephone and with or without duct tape! Being very technically inclined, he enjoyed working on all sorts of things. He was a co-chairman of the Statistical Analysts Club and looked forward to their weekly meetings. He was a member of Elizabeth Baptist Church in Hazlehurst and will always be remembered as a loving husband, father and papa.
He was a son of the late Arvie Jay and Stella Mae Lowman Crump. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Daisy Sheral Todd Crump and a brother, Kenneth “Kenny” Crump.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Patia and Ben Rountree, Statesboro; his son and daughter-in-law, James Allen (Ashley) Crump Jr., Vidalia; his sister, Helen Crump Brantley, Jacksonville; his brother, Parnell (Betty) Crump, St. Marys; five granddaughters, Reagan McDonald, Ella Faith Rountree, Johnna Rountree, Kendyl Crump and Jessa Crump and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Visitation will be from 2-3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 6, at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 6, from the Pearson-Dial Chapel.
Interment will be in the Bristol Cemetery.
The family kindly requests members of the Statistical Analysts Club to serve as honorary pallbearers. Please meet at the funeral home by 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
