Margaret ‘Maggie’ Howard

BLACKSHEAR — Mrs. Margaret “Maggie” Howard, 87, passed away Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at her residence in Blackshear.

Mrs. Howard was born in Glendale, Calif., to the late Audrey Collier and Evelyn I. Mabie Collier. She retired from the Pierce County Board of Education after 31.5 years as an educator. She also was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Blackshear.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Howard was also preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Lonnie Howard; and a sister, Audrey McKee.

Mrs. Howard is survived by a daughter, Kathleen “Rainey” Beverly (Richard) of Waycross; three sons, Wayne Howard of Blackshear, Christopher Howard (Gloria) of Blackshear, and Joshua Howard (Debbie Strange) of Alma; six grandchildren, Nick Beverly (Lexi Warner), Luke Beverly, Ashlyn Beverly Hawkins (David), Kristin Howard Savage (Andrew), Michelle Gaytan-Howard (Jorge Gomez) and Josh Howard (Anna Bullard); 12 great grandchildren, Nora Nettles, Brian Hawkins, Natalie Hawkins, David Michael Hawkins, Gianna Powell, McKynnlie Savage, Madelynn Savage, Aubreigh Smart, Jorge Gomez, Penelope Gomez, Joshua Howard and Jude Howard; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

A funeral service was held Saturday, August 31 at the Music Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in Oakland Cemetery.
