Roberson
BLACKSHEAR — Mr. Robert Wayne Roberson, 77, of Blackshear, passed away Tuesday night, August 27, 2024, at the Hospice Satilla Hospice House in Waycross.
Born July 13, 1947 in Screven, Roberson was raised in Mershon. He spent most of his adult life in Blackshear.
A 1965 graduate of Patterson High School, Roberson joined the United States Army shortly after, serving during the Vietnam War. After returning to the states, he went into cabinet building with his brother-in-law, Darrell, as well as working for the Georgia Department of Transportation as an appraiser, from which he retired after many years of service.
Known as a “Jack of all trades,” Roberson could fix anything, as well as being a successful pecan farmer. He was a proud, coffee mug-toting member of the Hardee’s Breakfast Club. Roberson will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, as his family was his pride and joy. He was of the Methodist faith.
Roberson was a son of the late Dennis and Monteen Bennett Roberson. He also was preceded in death by both of his brothers, Doyle Darrell Roberson and Dennis Ray Roberson.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Cheryl Tuten Roberson of Blackshear; three sons, Casey (Jennifer) Roberson and Nick (Alyson) Roberson, all of Blackshear, and Nathan (Alicia) Roberson of Valdosta; two sistersin- law, Sue (Darrell) Thomas of Blackshear and Sandra (Thomas) Pearce of North Augusta, S.C.; brother-in-law, Abe (Darlene) Tuten of Blackshear; five grandchildren, Ansley, Joshua, Brooks, Bennett and Stella; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services for Roberson were Friday, August 30 from the Pearson- Dial Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Bill Young and the Rev. Isaac Salgado officiating.
A private interment will be held in the Blackshear Cemetery. The family requested Vietnam Veterans to serve as honorary pallbearers.
