• Identity fraud, financial: Patrol Deputy Zackary Lytle took a report about 4 p.m., Tuesday, August 6 in the lobby of the Ware County Sheriff’s Office for an identity fraud in the 2900 block of Quail Run Drive.
The victim said they received a call from a person who said they were from the sheriff’s office and had a warrant for the victim’s arrest for failure to appear for jury duty.
The victim reported they were told in order to avoid arrest and eliminate the warrant they needed to withdraw money from their bank account and deposit into a bitcoin machine in a local store where it could be transferred to the caller.
• Felony theft by shoplifting: Patrol Deputy Dawson Murray responded about 8 p.m., Wednesday, August 7 to the 6300 block of Valdosta Hwy in reference to a report of shoplifting.
Arrested was Brittany Nicole Wilkins, 34, of the 1300 block of Alpha Street.
A worker at the store said approximately $2,300 worth of merchandise in three shopping carts was taken. Det. Dakota York and Det. Antony Phillips followed up on the case and made the arrest.
The case remains under investigation and additional arrests are likely, authorities said.
• Entering auto: Deputy Lytle responded about 7:45 a.m. Friday to a Ware County residence for a report of an entering auto.
Reported stolen from a silver Dodge Ram pickup truck were a black glock 19 9 mm pistol, an interordinance brand hellcat 380, an Uncle Mike’s brand black holster and another carbon fiber holster, glock magazines, a backpack, North American Arms 22 Magnum revolver, and an undisclosed amount of currency.
The victim stated when they went to the truck around 7 a.m. they discovered it had been broken into sometime after 7 p.m. the previous day.
Lytle reported the vehicle had been ransacked and its middle compartment was open, but there were no signs of forced entry.
Det. York was assigned to follow up.
• Possession of Methamphetamine, felony, possession of marijuana less than 1 ounce, bicycle-related offense of the traffic code: A traffic stop Thursday, August 8 led to the arrest of a Waycross man on drug possession and traffic code violations for bicycles.
Arrested was Marcus Leonard Elam, 21, of the 11oo block of Burgess Street. He was charged with felony possession of methamphetimine, possession of marijuana less than one ounce and bicycle- related offense in the traffic code.
About 11:45 a.m. August 8, Det. James Cox and Det. York initiated a traffic stop on a male subject on Marion Street near Palmetto Drive. The subject had a small cigar in his mouth and dropped it on the ground.
The cigar was found to contain a substance that field tested for marijuana. Det. Cox also found inside the subject’s wallet a substance that field tested positive for the presence of methamphetimine.
Elam was arrested and booked into the Ware County Jail on the charges and has since been released.
