JESUP — Mrs. Marion Bennett Sloan, 86, of Jesup, passed away peacefully on August 16, 2024.
Mrs. Sloan was a devoted mother, successful businesswoman, and cheri shed friend to many.
She was a spirited Southern belle who dedicated herself to various community endeavors, from participating in the March of Dimes to serving as President of the Blackshear Woman’s Club. Mrs. Sloan was a passionate bridge player, a member of the Lakeview Ladies Golf Association, and was involved in the Blackshear Jayceettes.
In addition to managing the University of Georgia Georgia Center gift shop and owning the Tap & Toe School of Dance, Mrs. Sloan was a loyal Georgia Bulldogs fan and the proud owner of Sloan’s Seafood and Porky’s BBQ restaurants. She also held the title of former Bacon County High School Homecoming Queen. Mrs. Sloan will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
She was predeceased by her husband, James William “Jim” Sloan; former husband, Ashley E. Hobbs; and parents, Valdese Bennett and Colleen Johnson Bennett of Alma.
Mrs. Sloan is survived by her five children, Clay Hobbs (Billie Faye Hobbs) of Macon, Gina Hobbs Jeffords (Ed Jeffords) of Jesup, Nick Hobbs (Micaela Grant Hobbs) of Watkinsville, Ga., Hank Hobbs (Debbie Bryant Hobbs) of Hazlehurst and Mandy Sloan O’Bannon of Ringgold, Ga.; eight grandchildren, Tracy Hobbs Jones, Austin Jeffords, Kristin Hobbs Coffey (Taylor Van Coffey), Addison Jeffords, Megan Hobbs, Leila Hobbs, Mairen Hobbs and Jadon O’Bannon; three great grandchildren, Tate Coffey, Jadon O’Bannon and Toni Godwin; and several other relatives and friends.
A celebration of Mrs. Sloan’s life was held Monday, August 19 at Greenlawn Cemetery in Waycross with the Rev. Loren Bryant officiating.
