WAYCROSS — Dianne McCarthy Hayman (née Lana Dianne McCarthy), M.S., Ed.S. of Waycross, died at the age of 74 Saturday evening, August 17, 2024, at Orange Park (Fla.) Medical Center after an extended illness.

Mrs. Hayman was born October 18, 1949 in Waycross to the late W. Allen McCarthy and L. Virue Fales Mc-Carthy. She made Waycross her home for most of her life.

Mrs. Hayman was a lifelong member of Waresboro United Methodist Church. She retired from the Wayne County Board of Education as a school psychologist where she made a positive impact on the lives of many children. Previous to this, she had a storied career as an English teacher and served in various social work roles throughout her life, positively impacting the lives of many adults.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hayman was preceded in death by her husband, Robert C. “Bob” Hayman; five siblings Dr. William Daniel “Billy” Mc-Carthy, Faye McCarthy Simmons (late Dave), Norman Allen McCarthy, Sr., Gail McCarthy Aberson (late Butch) and Judith Susan “Bonnie” Lee (late Bernard); her fur babies Bear, Snow, and Angel; granddogs Lily Dale and Winnie Pearl; two nieces, Heather Lee Rothfeldt and Rosann McCarthy Laradji; and a nephew, Michael Lee.

Mrs. Hayman is survived by the love of her life, her daughter, Courtney Connor- Price (Chris), granddog, Cody Marwood of Wigginton, England, and her faithful fur baby, “Zack Buddy”; loving nieces and nephews, Amy Aberson, Nina Lee Alverson, James Aberson (Susan), Allen Smith and Jeffrey Mc-Carthy; great nieces and nephews, Trish Beverly Burkhart, Savanna Beverly, Journey Beverly, Shelby Lee, Trent Lee (Jenny), Kayden Rothfeldt, Lewis Alverson, Riley Alverson (Marissa), Becky Hinnant, Jenny Sweat (Jamison) and Sarah McCarthy; sisters-inlaw, Carol McCarthy and Dr. Patricia McCarthy; and numerous other nieces, nephews and extended family.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, August 22 at 2 p.m., in the Miles-Odum Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery in Bickley. Visitation will be held today (Wednesday, August 21) from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Miles-Odum Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Ware County Animal Services and Rick and Nancy Allmon — Allmon’s Camp Animal Aide.
