Nursing students get simulation lab

Special to the WJH Memorial Satilla Health and South Georgia State College introduced a state-of-the-art simulation lab Tuesday, August 20 dedicated to enhancing the training and education of nursing students.

The cutting-edge facility at SGSC represents a significant investment in the future of healthcare, providing students with an immersive learning environment that closely replicates real-world clinical settings. The introduction included a tour of the newly constructed lab and opening statements by hospital and college administrators.

Memorial Satilla recently donated $100,000 to assist with build out costs for a new simulation lab at SGSC. As part of HCA Healthcare — a company with more than 99,000 nurses — the hospital is actively implementing resources, development and education to equip the next generation of nurses.

The lab at SGSC is the second of its kind in the region to open in the last two years. HCA Healthcare partnered with the University of North Florida in 2022 to open the HCA Healthcare Center for Clinical Advancement at UNF in Jacksonville.

“We’re excited to be a part of this new educational space for students,” MSH Chief Executive Officer Dale Neely said. “By supporting the construction of this advanced training facility, we are not only investing in the future of our nursing workforce but also ensuring our patients receive the highest quality of care.”

The lab is equipped with the latest technology and realistic simulation equipment, allowing students to practice their skills in a safe and controlled environment. The lab features AI-integrated manikins, advanced medical equipment, and realistic patient care scenarios that enable students to gain hands-on experience in a variety of clinical situations, bridging the gap between classroom learning and real-life practice.

“This lab is a gamechanger for our future nurses,' said Celeste Brizzee, Chief Nursing Officer at MSH. “Students will benefit from the opportunity to engage in realistic clinical simulations that enhance their critical thinking, decision-making, and procedural skills.”
