American Legion Post 517 holds its monthly meeting at 6 p.m. today (Wednesday, August 21) at 710 Dorothy Street.

Ware BOE sets called meeting
The Ware County Board of Education has scheduled a called meeting for noon, Tuesday, August 27 at the board offices, 1301 Bailey Street.
Purpose of the meeting, which is open to the public, is to discuss the Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) for a new Waycross Middle School, personnel, and other miscellaneous items The meeting agenda and the minutes are posted on the system web page at www.ware.k12.ga.us under the District and e-Board links.
S.C. State band performs Aug. 29 The South Carolina State University 101 Marching Band will perform Thursday, August 29 in Memorial Stadium.
The performance will come at halftime of the Ware County High School Junior Varsity football game.
The band is directed by Waycross native and 2009 WCHS graduate Dr. Eric Williams. He is the son of Ms. Bennie Bell Williams and the late Rev. Bernard A. Benson.
The band is stopping in Waycross on its way to Tallahassee, Fla.
UN expert talks on UNESCO Aug. 22 Nationally syndicated radio host and United Nations expert Alex Newman will give a presentation about UNESCO at 7 p.m., Thursday, August 22 at the Waycross Exchange Club, 2401 Knight Avenue.
The event, presented by Americans for the Okefenokee, is free and open to the public.
Newman is an awardwinning journalist, and nationally syndicated radio host who speaks to groups all over the country about the U.N. He will explain why UNESCO is a danger.
