City man sought after assault

The Waycross Police Department is looking for a city man on a variety of charges in connection to a domestic incident Sunday, July 28 at multiple locations on City Boulevard and Memorial Drive.

Tyrique Marquez Mills, 27, of the 1300 block of Walter Street, has been named in arrest warrants for Aggravated Assault-Family Violence, Kidnapping and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, WPD Major Danny Hampton said Wednesday, July 31.

Mills is 5-foot-6, 160 pounds with black hair in dreadlocks. There was no description of his clothing.

If you have any information on his whereabouts, WPD asks that you all (912) 287-2921 or 9-1-1. Those wishing to remain annoymous may also call the Community Automated Tip Line (C.A.T.) at (912) 287-2924.

The incident report began with an assault on Asia Shaquill Douglas, 31, of the 1800 block of Pine Street, about 4:50 p.m. in the parking lot of Zaxby’s on Memorial Drive, the police report said. After leaving Zaxby’s another assault against Douglas occurred about 12 minutes later at the Days Inn motel, the report said.

Two other assaults took place at the Dollar General Market on City Boulevard prior to the visit to Zaxby’s and the other at Bok Beauty on Memorial Drive before the one at the Days Inn on Memorial.

Officer Dexter Carridine responded to the call that a male, later identified as Mills, was beating a female in a silver Mercedes Benz vehicle at the motel.

Carridine located the vehicle as it was leaving the motel parking lot and followed it. The officer said he could see a female, later identified as Douglas, in the vehicle’s back seat, the report said.

After passing through a stop sign at Marion Street near South City Boulevard, the vehicle started to increase speed and Carridine activated his emergency lights and siren to pursue the vehicle.

The pursuit continued through the city with the vehicle running multiple stop signs at speeds approaching 80 mph and was possibly going to wreck, the report said. Carridine was advised by the shift supervisor to end the pursuit shortly there after.

Carridine and other officers were later dispatched to Washington Avenue near Hunter Street for the vehicle in the chase wrecking. Witnesses at the scene said Mills fled on foot down Hunter Street after wrecking the vehicle, the report said.

He was unable to be located in the area with the help of a K9 tracking unit. A Mossberg 22 long rifle loaded with one round of ammunition was found in the trunk of the vehicle, the report said.

Douglas, who was taken to Memorial Satilla Health to be checked out, was interviewed there by officers about the incident, and said the rifle didn’t belong to her.

Douglas said the incident began after Mills, whom she had previously dated, asked to come to her house to talk about her new relationship life, the report said. After some point the conversation reached a point where Douglas wanted to take Mills home.

Douglas said Mills went in his mother’s residence to change clothes, then asked to go to Zaxby’s to get some food.
