The Georgia Initiative for Community Housing application has been submitted, according to Attorney Ken Taft who is spearheading the efforts to obtain GICH certification for Waycross/Ware County.
“We should know probably within three weeks if we’re going to be selected for a site visit which is step two of the process. The site visits will occur in late August or the beginning of September.”
According to the Georgia Department of Community Affairs, the GICH initiative, which was launched in 2004, “offers communities a three-year program of collaboration and technical assistance related to housing and community development.
The objective of the initiative is to help communities create and implement a locally based plan to meet their housing needs.”
Receiving GICH certification will make Waycross/Ware county more attractive to affordable housing developers.
