The Brantley County Board of Education voted on the following agenda items during its Monday, November 11 monthly meeting.
• Nahunta Elementary/ Primary drain lines: The board approved to accept the quote from Hodges Plumbing Company to replace the lines in the amount of $26,150.
Superintendent Dr. Kim Morgan acknowledged that it was a challenge, but she gave high praise to the School Nutrition Program for stepping up to the plate to make sure that the children had food.
“We had some extensive work that had to take place in this kitchen,” Dr. Morgan said. “We were able to bring in from other schools so that the kids received delicious, nutritious meals.”
• Bus incentives: The board approved the bus incentives. These were not new buses, but a vote is needed every year so that they can pay the incentives out.
The Board sent out an email to employees to remind them about their recruitment process for new bus drivers and if new drivers drive for at least 90 days, they will receive a $500 incentive.
Plus, any new driver who has completed 90 days of driving, the new driver gets a signing check of $500.
• AES pass-through refrigerator: The board passed a motion to accept a quote from Boelter in the amount of $12,416.13 for a pass-through refrigerator for Atkinson Elementary School.
• HES pass-through warmer: The board passed a motion to accept a quote from Premiere in the amount of $7,026.50 for a pass through warmer for Hoboken Elementary School.
It is another piece of equipment needing to be replaced.
Both the refrigerator and the warmer will be funded by the Federal School Nutrition money.
• FY Title I, Title V budgets: The board approved the FY25 Title I and Title V budgets. These are two federal funded budgets.
Title I goes to help hire teachers and parapros and to help reduce class sizes. Title V helps out with the purchase of Chromebooks. The BOE has to buy a couple hundred annually in order to keep up with the one-to-one ratio.
• Calendar revision: The board approved the calendar revision by adding one additional day for post-planning for May 29, 2025. This was due to Hurricane Helene closing the school system for a period of time.
The next Brantley County Board of Education work session will be Thursday, December 5 at 7 p.m. The next regular meeting will be Monday, December 9 at 7 p.m.
