Groundbreaking for new facilities at BCHS

New building to enhance student and community sports experience

CANEY BAY — Superintendent Dr. Kim Morgan, alongside the Brantley County Board of Education, officially broke ground Thursday for the new expansion project at Brantley County High School.

“We are thrilled to begin this major project, which will provide our students and staff with the best possible facilities to grow, learn and succeed,” said Dr. Morgan. “These new spaces will enhance our academic school program during the school day for over 450 students daily as well as our athletic programs, foster school spirit, and bring our community together in new ways.

“We are committed to ensuring that our students have access to the resources they need to excel both in the classroom and on the field.”

The November 7 groundbreaking ceremony marks the beginning of construction efforts to enhance the school’s athletic and extracurricular facilities, benefiting students, staff, and the entire community.

The comprehensive project includes the addition of state-of-the-art band and chorus rooms, a modern weight room, a dedicated wrestling room, and a gymnasium for daily physical education classes and sporting events.

Additionally, the construction will feature updated staff offices, a spacious lobby with concessions and locker rooms.

The old gymnasium will have a new façade which will match the design of the new gym, providing a cohesive and visually appealing look. These projects will serve instructional programs during the school day, as well as athletic and extracurricular activities after school.

One of the key improvements in the project is a much-needed expansion of parking to accommodate the growing number of fans and visitors attending games and concerts.

and soccer programs, further strengthening Brantley County High School’s commitment to providing excellent opportunities for all students.

“We are striving to build a future that our students deserve,” said David Herrin, Chairman of the Board of Education The strategic location of this new facility is designed with the future in mind, offering the flexibility to tie into a new school down the road.

The expansion is expected to be completed by September 2026, with work progressing over the next two years. The completed facilities will serve current students and ensure Brantley County High School is wellequipped to meet the needs of future generations of learners and athletes.
