Nahunta council approves holiday bonuses

NAHUNTA — With the holiday season upon us, the Nahunta City County approved holiday bonuses for employees during Monday night’s City Council meeting.

The $50 traditional Thanksgiving bonus was unanimously approved by council members. Instead of gift cards, the money will be added to paychecks.

City Clerk Angie Wirth expressed her usage of the gift card was very limited.

“The only place mine would work is Wal-Mart,” she said.

City employees will receive a $100 bonus for Christmas which will also be added to the employees' paychecks. This has been the first time it has been raised in three years.

Up until this year, the bonus was $50. Given the recent events such as the storm which overwhelmed the city, the council unanimously agreed. However, the money will also be taxed just as it was last year.

Council members also approved to hold their annual Christmas party again at L.L. Creek. The date is unspecified at this point.

Police Chief Brad Todd gave the October monthly report. The Nahunta Police Department responded to 301 E911 calls, made 181 traffic stops, issued 86 citations, handed out 95 warnings, filed 20 incident reports, filed six accident reports, made seven arrests, had 10 warrants taken out and made one juvenile arrest.

Public Works finished 428 work orders during the month.

The next City Council meeting will be Monday, December 2, 2024 at 7 p.m.
